Reading Theme of October, 2019

Främling, vad döljer du för mig?
"Främling" by Carola (1983 ESC)

"Stranger, what are you hiding from me?" is the first brilliant line of the Swedish hit and classic pop song "Främling" by Carola. The song is all about encountering a mysterious stranger with a secret that you just can't wait to reveal! And might that stranger also be a bit good looking, perhaps? ;)
Anyways, as the song might hint at, this month's reading theme has to do with strangers! Or rather, turning strangers into less-strangers. Your mission of the month is to read a book by an author whom you know very little or nothing about, and then find out more about them. Watch interviews, read the acknowledgements, have a look at their Wikipedia or Goodreads page.
For example! You might know very little about the author of "Throne of Glass", Sarah J. Maas. So? Read a book by her this month, and make sure to do some research!

Finding it difficult to think of any authors that you haven't already written autobiographies about? Here's a list of what I think is a group of mysterious/interesting authors:
  • Laini Taylor (author of "Daughter of Smoke & Bone")
  • Anthony Burgess (author of "A Clockwork Orange")
  • Scott Fitzgerald (author of "The Great Gatsby")
  • Ransom Riggs (author of "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children")
  • Libba Bray (author of "A Great and Terrible Beauty")

And here is a list of authors that I might be reading:

  • Leigh Bardugo (author of "Shadow and Bone")
  • Jennifer Niven (author of "All the Bright Places")
  • Kristen Cashore (author of "Graceling")
  • Alexander McCall Smith (author of "No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency")
  • Ernest Cline (author of "Ready Player One")

Got any authors in mind? Don't be afraid to pick one at random! Perhaps this challenge can prompt you to read a book that you might not have otherwise this October? And maybe this song will stick with you for a while? ;)

Happy reading!
