2020 Reading Goals

It's hard to believe, but 2020 is soon upon us. It feels unreal that the 2010's will be left in the past; I felt like it lasted forever. But what better way to prepare for the new year than to set up some 2020 reading goals? 2019 was a really good reading year for me and I managed to meet and surpass most of my goals for that year (see my 2019 reading goals evaluation post). However, I have new plans for 2020, and a set of new goals that I want to work on. Here they are!

Read 30 Books
This is the same goal that I had last year, and which I managed to surpass with many more books. I have yet to see the end of my reading year 2019, but I hope to have finished 60 books before New Years Eve. This upcoming year, I want to set the same goal for myself, but I don't expect to reach much higher numbers than actually 30 books.

Read 20 Books That Are Over 400 Pages
This is my absolute main goal this year, except for reading 30 books in total. I want to take on a bunch of chunky books that I've wanted to read for ages, but haven't because of how intimidating they look. Examples of that are "The Final Empire" by Brandon Sanderson, "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss, "The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue" by Mackenzi Lee, and many more. I started a new list on Goodreads, and I've realised that I own 150+ books that are over 400 pages, so I shouldn't be short on books to read. I want to read at lest 20 chunky books this year.
What do I define as a 400+ page book? Well, if it says on Goodreads that it's 400 pages or over, I'll count it as a chunky book. And that's that. I have made a list on Goodreads with every thick book I own that, which you can check out if you want.

Read Thick and Thin Classics
This isn't a major goal for me, but there are a few classics that I want to read this year. One of them is "Doctor Faustus" by Thomas Mann, which is a #bigbook that I'm really looking forward to. There are several other classics that I also want to read, but which are less than 400 pages long, such as "Butcher's Crossing" by John Williams. Therefore, my goal regarding classics doesn't necessarily abide to the big book rule. At most, I expect myself to read five classics in 2020.

Read Books That I Already Own
Same goal as last year. I own a whole bunch of books; I should prioritise to read those I've had for a while. At least in some cases. I won't try to fool myself; there are a lot of new books that tempt me and I won't be able to resist them all. Especially when the annual book sale comes around ;)

Explore more high fantasy:
In the past year, I've started to delve into the rich world of high fantasy novels. I wish to continue with my new endeavours in 2020, and hopefully discover some new favourite authors in doing so. I believe that I have the potential to become truly hooked on this fantastical genre, and perhaps it will lead me into more adult fiction as well, as I continue to discover and love more genres and age groups than 'just' YA, heteronormative, western fantasy.

Summary:
Read 30 books in total
Read 20 books that are over 400 pages
Read up to 5 classics
Read books already owned
Read more high fantasy

Do you think I can make it? I think what's most important is that I believe in myself. I'm certain I have a lot of wonderful books ahead of this year, and I just can't wait to discover them. I did well last year and had a blast; I'm hoping to do the same in 2020.
If you've set up any goals for yourself in 2020, I hope you'll have fun trying to reach them. And good luck!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
